Rotorua Branch was invited to an official welcome to one of China’s renowned national artists, Zhao Qingguo. Mr. Zhao had visited Rotorua five times enjoying the sights and doing some painting of various scenes. He was so impressed by the stunning natural beauty of the city and its surrounds he spent many months creating a five meter canvas painting of Sulfur Point on Lake Rotorua which he entitled “Memory of Beautiful Lake Rotorua.”
The official presentation was held at the Rotorua Museum allowing Mr Zhao to gift his painting to the city of Rotorua. He was welcomed by Mayor Kevin Winters along with the Council CEO Geoff Williams and Director of the Museum, Stewart Brown along with Destination Rotorua Marketing Manager Oscar Nathan along with invited guests.
Mr. Zhao is a distinguished Professor at Zhongyuan University of Technology, Dean of China Central Academy of Painting and Deputy of Calligraphy at the Great Wall of China
General Research Institute of painting. He has visited many countries as part of cultural exchanges. His works are in many Chinese museums and galleries..
Mr. Zhao was accompanied by Dr. Jinming Chen and his wife Cathy Zhang, CEO and Director of UUNZ Institute of Business; Mr. Shigang Ma, General Manager of China Southern Airlines in Auckland; Mr. Yaxun Zhang, President of He Nan Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand and Mr. Ping Li, General Manager of Chinesetown media company in Auckland. Rotorua City signed a MOU with China Southern Airlines recently.
Dr. Kin, Chairman of the Rotorua Chinese Association and a prominent businessman for many years in Rotorua hosted dinner at his Supreme Chinese Gourmet Resturant of which he is owner along with the Supreme Deer Products.
