Saturday Aug 23 at 3pm at St John Catholic church hall, 180 Centreway, Orewa, Auckland.

We will have the pleasure of hearing Brendan Corbett recounting the story of his stay at Shandan Bailie School, Shandan, Gansu province.  Shandan Baillie School was founded by Rewi Alley and George Hogg back in 1944 [click the following link for the story of how they started the school https://nzchinasociety.org.nz/shandan-bailie-school/], and both of them are buried there.

Brendan spent a very fruitful 3 and a half months (Sep – Dec 2012) there and, besides teaching English, learned a great deal both about the Chinese and also how the memory of Rewi Alley is still strong there.

We are really looking forward to his talk (including perhaps seeing some of the videos that he shot during his stay).

As usual, we will retire to the BBQ Noodle Restaurant after the meeting.
