Eric Livingstone was awarded life membership in May 2013.  He was National President of the Society from 2008-2013. Prior to that he was National South Island Vice President for six years. He has been a member, and on the executive of the Christchurch Branch since 1986.

Eric led the Prominent Persons and Leaders delegation in 2008 and the Society’s Silk Road Tour in 2000 and was deputy leader of the Society’s Footsteps of Rewi Alley Tour of China in 1997.

He is a member of the International Committee of Chinese Industrial Co-operatives (Gung Ho).

As Managing Director of Guthrey Breeding Services Ltd he hosted Premier Zhao Ziyang to the Canterbury Artificial Insemination Centre in 1983 and has since been in five New Zealand trade delegations to China including Mike Moore’s NZ Government Trade Delegation 1984 and NZ China Trade Association’s delegation of 1985. He has hosted Governors of Gansu Province and has also advised Gansu Provincial Government on Animal Breeding Management. He is active in, and has chaired, the Christchurch Gansu Friendly Relations Committee.
