Province China. They included a Senior Advisor, Deputy Director General of the Financial Department, First Deputy Mayor of Tongchuan, Deputy Chief of General Office, Chairman of Shaanxi Hongrui Group, and their interpreter from the Foreign Affairs Office, all of the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government. Another interpreter from Auckland accompanied them. Shaanxi Province is where the famous Chinese Terra-cotta Soldiers are located.

The purpose of their visit to New Zealand was to strengthen existing relations with the New Zealand China Friendship Society and expand cooperation regarding agriculture, especially kiwi fruit, as well as exchange views on the development of tourism and explore business opportunities.

Before traveling to Rotorua they stopped off in Hamilton to gain knowledge of New Zealand’s Agriculture practices.

While in Rotorua they met with Oscar Nathan, who represented Rotorua on the 2009 New Zealand China Friendship’s Prominent Persons Tour, the Deputy Mayor, Trevor Maxwell and the General Manager of the Millennium Hotel, Pipiana Whiston. They spent their time discussing various topics through their interpreters and then visited Te Puia.

The Rotorua Branch Committee provided them with lunch in a beautiful setting at the residence of John and Masie Bond’s, whose home backs onto the lovely Utuhina Stream close to the city centre. It was a beautiful day and they thoroughly enjoyed both their lunch and visit to Rotorua.
