GREETINGS TO ALL:NZCFS-Logo

OUR OCTOBER MEETING WILL BE HELD

DATE: SUNDAY 18 OCTOBER 2015

TIME: 12:30 P.M.

VENUE: ROTORUA ARTS VILLAGE 1240 Hinemaru Street

We will be carrying over our theme about the History of Chinese immigrants with the showing of a DVD entitled “Illustrious Energy.” It is about two Chinese men who are trying to get back to China by working in an abandoned gold field in Otago. The story depicts the stark contrast of two cultures with no common understanding. It is my understanding it takes place around the historic village of Arrowtown. The film is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. We will try and start promptly at 12:30 p.m. with our shared lunch so we can hopefully finish close to our finish time at 2:30 p.m. It is an interesting watch so feel free to bring a friend as well as something to share for lunch.

NOVEMBER MEETING

We will have our usual end of the year luncheon. More information at Sunday’s meeting and in the next newsletter as to where we will be holding this luncheon. We will not be having a meeting at the Arts Village in November. This year seems to have gone very quickly indeed !

TAURANGA EVENT

Tauranga Arts Festival will present a play on Sunday, October 25 about a story of cross-cultural love in the 1920s New Zealand. It will be performed using four languages – Cantonese, English, te reo Maori and New Zealand Sign. The Mooncake and the Kumara by Mei-Lin Hansen is based on the meeting of Mei Lin’s Chinese grandfather and her Maori grandmother in a Horowhenua market garden and the repercussions of their relationship. Tickets cost $ 45 per adult and is being preformed at Bay Court Theatre.

OTHER ITEMS OF INTEREST

I would like to thank those who attended the Moon Festival. We all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. A big thank you goes out to the Rotorua Multicultural Association for holding this festival every year. A special thank you to Waitsu for the energy she put into bringing the orchestra to Rotorua and the other entertainment. Everyone enjoyed their performance. Also we had a very good day at the Open Day at the Arts Village. We thank Mr. Cheng for coming along and skillfully writing out the names of our visitors. This event was also well supported by our members. We had a few enquires about our organisation. On Sunday November 8 a Chinese Delegation of seven Crafts Women are visiting Rotorua. They are hoping to be able to visit the Arts Village Crafts Market and then the next day visit the Whakarewarewa Village. I hope to be able to confirm this visit soon. Members will be welcome to come to the Arts Village Market to meet up with this delegation.
