On 20 November 2016 the NZCFS Timaru Branch held a pot luck meal at Ann and Richard White’s country home to farewell and thank Caroline who has been teaching Mandarin at Timaru Girls’ High School and the Confucius Institute at ARA Polytechnic for the past year.

Caroline entertained the gathering by playing a melody on a hulusi, a traditional Chinese flute with three bamboo pipes and a gourd wind chest.

On behalf of the Branch, Ann White thanked Caroline for coming to Timaru and presented her with a book of New Zealand scenery to remind her of her time here.

The next NZCFS Timaru Branch function will be a banquet to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Rooster on 29 January 2017 at the Golden Palace Restaurant, 84 Evans St, Timaru.  Tickets costing $25 are available from Ray Davis phone 03-688-8920, email lisava_house@ hotmail.com or from the restaurant.
