Nelson Branch March Newsletter

81

Our NZCFS Nelson Branch March newsletter includes details of our next meeting on Friday 29 March. To our March meeting Rose Kerr is bringing another of her unique studies: “Eating and Drinking in the Song Dynasty (960 – 1279)”. This time she is taking us to Jingdezhen, famous as ‘The Porcelain City’, where she is an Honorary Citizen. Rose is taking us back in time to the earliest history of Chinese ceramics in the Song Dynasty. We will be surprised to learn that amazing ceramics were being produced in the kilns of Jingdezhen a thousand years ago. We may also be surprised that Song Dynasty Ceramics pre-date the blue and white ware that we know well, which did not come into prominence until the 14th century. Rose promises to show us lots of lovely porcelain vessels from ancient Jingdezhen, as well as paintings, lacquer and silver from the Song period. Possibly we will see eating and drinking vessels like this wine container from that time.
