Timaru Branch Celebrates Chinese New Year

Over eighty people celebrated the Year of the Horse at the Golden Palace Restaurant on 2 February. This took the form of a banquet meal, and was the first function of 2014 held by the Timaru Branch of the New Zealand China Friendship Society. Following a buffet Chinese meal, committee member Ann White chaired the Timaru Branch meeting on 18 August. Timaru Branch President’s Sudden Death

Timaru Branch members were saddened to learn of the sudden death of President Jim Hunter on 14th August.   Jim had chaired a Branch Committee meeting just the previous week and his sudden passing came as a shock to members.  Sympathy is extended to his wife Margaret who is also a Branch Committee member. Tramping Club’s Nepal Project

On 16 June the Timaru Branch NZCFS viewed an interesting presentation by Geraldine Tramping Club members, Colleen and Russell Winnington, who were members of a Club group which travelled to Nepal in 2012 to install a water supply to remote Damar village. Members of the Chinese community joined Timaru Branch members on 10 February 2013 to celebrate the commencement of the Year of the Snake.
