To celebrate our 60th birthday, we are planning a unique tour.

It will combine a classic Silk Road Tour starting in the very west of China, with a  highly acclaimed Projects Tour, where we will look at how we are expressing our legacy in Rewi Alley, Kathleen Hall and the cooperative movement in NZCFS projects today, and meet a number of the people involved in our work past and present.

Highlights will include:

Lake Karakol, west Xinjiang

The silk road travel will take us from Beijing to Kashgar, then follow the silk road back east to Beijing, visiting Kashgar, Urumuqi, Turpan, Dunhuang ,and Jiayouguan, to Shandan.

Projects tour field visit to Shandan Onion Coop

In Shandan we will celebrate 60 years of NZCFS and 70 years of Shandan Bailie School (including its early years in Shuangshipu), and visit cooperatives. In Lanzhou, meet our Kathleen Hall scholar; Baoji and Fengxian to visit NZCFS Shaanxi Women’s Federation health and cooperative project, Rewi Alley’s old cave dwelling; Xi’an terracotta warriors; Baoding visit Kathleen Hall village, Norman Bethune museum;

The cable car to Wolf Tooth mountain summit
