Accolades for Senior Society Members

In early November our society’s Immediate Past President Dave Bromwich was given the honorary title of Envoy of People’s Friendship of Jiangsu by the Jiangsu People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. This was in recognition of his contribution to the friendship between Jiangsu and New Zealand. An award ceremony for people receiving the award was held on 25 November. For those unable to attend, there will be a separate ceremony when they next visit China.

Dave says he thinks this all started in 1995 when his family was chosen as first envoys of the Napier City Council to the then new Napier – Lianyungang sister city relationship.

In addition, last month he was “proclaimed as an honorary Foreign Member of the 5th Council of Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries”.

Further good news arrived a few days later when Hamilton branch president Miao Fan was accorded the honorary title of Envoy of People’s Friendship of Wuxi. This was in recognition of the many years she has been working on promoting cultural and educational exchanges between Hamilton and Wuxi, which has involved organising activities and hosting Wuxi delegations and leading a delegation to Wuxi.

Fine accolades indeed, and very worthy recognition of the work they have done and continue to do in furthering China – New Zealand relations over many many years. These awards are an example of the high regard with which our society is held in China.
