Celebrating Chinese Culture In Palmerston North

Legacies of Culture and Friendship

China is a place rich in cultural legacies.  Is it easy to keep such legacies alive in modern day China?
A New Zealander called Rewi Alley left a great legacy in China.  How can a legacy of friendship be continued over 60 years?

To explore these topics, join the NZCFS for :
A documentary screening on Chinese cultural legacies, village life, Spring Festival, filial duties and traditions – centred around a martial arts family.

  • Videos about the life in “Rewi Alley” school.
  • A presentation on ongoing NZ friendship projects in China.

Chinese Movie (with English subtitles) – American Dreams in China中国合伙人

Based on a true story, this award-winning film is about 3 young men building a successful English school to help Chinese teenagers fulfill their dreams.  Spanned almost 30 years, the film embodies references to major moments in contemporary Chinese history.                                        

Manawatu Branch members have also translated and made Chinese signage to display alongside the English signage at the Library (mainly on Level 1) and arranged a display of Chinese artifacts in front of the Main Desk on Level 1. Everyone is welcome to attend
