Ian Howat

350

Ian Howat who passed away on Saturday night, May 4. He had been ill for several months, but was able to wait to meet his newly born grandchild before departing.
Ian had a long involvement with NZCFS. He served as an active member of National Executive for more than 15 years, where he was greatly respected for his clarity and pragmatism, often steering issues in a concise direction. His contribution to Hamilton Branch over a longer period is immeasurable as an active president, vice president, editor and committee member.

Ian’s passion for China and Chinese people is quite exceptional, with his dedication to studying Chinese language, his passion for Chinese food, but most importantly the friendships he established with Chinese people. He is held with sincere and high respect in Hamilton Chinese circles, including the greater NZCFS community.

NZCFS extends deepest sympathy to Shirley and family, and to all his friends condolences on the passing of Ian from our lives.
