Nanhu Park is the main park in the city of Shandan.   It incorporates gardens, roses, and a large lake with paddle boats.  In springtime many children come to the lake to catch tadpoles.  There are amusements rides, as well as shady walks, decorated pagodas, and areas for children’s games.  Many elderly come daily to chat and play Chinese chess or mahjong.

Nanhu, meaning ‘south of the lake’.  The park is in the south of the city centre, and one entrance is adjacent to the memorial tomb of Rewi Alley and George Hogg.   There are three entrances from various streets, each with an impressive entrance gate.
