Robin Brown was awarded life membership in 2006.
Robin joined Nelson Branch in 1992, was Vice President in 1993, and capably led the Branch as President from 1994-2000. For two years he was Immediate Past President and continued to be a very valuable member of the committee until his health forced his retirement. He has had a major influence on the direction and success of the Branch through generous use of his many skills and talents and has always shown great enthusiasm for furthering friendship with the people of China.
Robin’s involvement with our Chinese Sister City has been an ongoing passion. Beginning with the informal discussions in 1993, Robin has always played a key role in the development and ongoing success of the Nelson/Huangshi Sister City relationship. He has been fully involved in every exchange and his meticulous planning and preparation has done much to strengthen the ties between the people of both cities. The establishment of the Chinese Garden in Nelson is a testament to his foresight and tenacity.
Robin’s commitment to the Nelson Branch progressed naturally to participation in the work of the Society at a national level. He was elected Vice President South Island in 1997 and continued in that role until 2002 when he accepted the position of President for one year. He continued his involvement with the National Executive as Immediate Past President for two more years.
Always enthusiastic about travel, Robin has led national and local groups to China, and has hosted delegations from several parts of China.
