NZCFS-LogoGREETINGS TO ALL:

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE:

 DATE: Sunday 25 August 2013

TIME: 12:30 P.M.

VENUE: ROTORUA ARTS CENTRE (RAVE) 1240 Hinemaru Street

Our Guest Speaker this month is Barbara Francis. Her topic is entitled “Don’t Travel in China at the Full Moon: Correspondence of Agnes Moncrieff(NZ) from China 1930-1945”

Agnes Moncrieff was a friend of Barbara’s, she was some 40 years older. Barbara was so amazed at the life her friend had led, decided to learn more about this amazing woman after her death. She learned of the collection of Agnes’s letters held in the Alexander Turnbull Library so decided to thoroughly research her friends experiences in China which coincided with the Japanese invasion. Agnes’s work in China which involved a lot of traveling within that country. Her letters not only described her life during this difficult time in China but also observations of the current situation along with the work Agnes was doing for the YWCA of China. Like Rewi Alley, Agnes was held in high regard by the Chines people.

Barbara will be travelling from Wellington to share this amazing story, a presentation not to be missed. Both Hamilton and Tauranga Branches have been invited as well as the Rotorua Historical Society therefore our meeting will be in Studio One near the front entrance. We will still have our shared lunch to start the afternoon off followed by Barbara’s powerpoint presentation. If you come by the city bus I am sure that other members will be happy to see that you get home safely so you don’t miss any of this presentation.

 COMING MEETINGS
