A youtube recorded interview with John Lander, former deputy Ambassador to China (1974-6), first Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran (1985-8) and 3 times head of the China section of Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade. He retired in 1996 after 30 years of diplomatic service, but has come out of retirement through his dismay over the last year or so about the deteriorating relationship between Australia and China.

Robert Barwick, Citizens Insight, conducts interviews on matters of National and International importance. While this has an Australian focus, the wisdom expressed in this interview is highly relevant to New Zealand’s geopolitical positioning. While it is quite long at 1 hour 12 minutes, it is of great interest to anybody battered by the contrasting strands of information and looking for learned commentary and understanding from an experienced and impartial retired diplomat.
