On Friday 13 October, speakers from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Beijing shared in an online forum their ideas on how cities can respond to the demands of climate change, including the construction and restoration of green urban infrastructure.

Information on speakers and presentation topics was shared in last month’s issue of the newsletter. The online forum was been organised jointly by New Zealand China Friendship Society (NZCFS) and the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (BPAFFC).

Physically present at the forum was a delegation led by National President Chris Lipscombe and including Northern VP Miao Fan, National Executive member Laura Carter, and industry practitioners from Downer, WSP, and Auckland council-controlled entity Eke Panuku.

In Beijing and Shanghai, the delegation is visiting urban brownfields development sites and looking at reclamation and regeneration projects. In Suzhou, the delegates are attending a conference on Green and Innovation-Led Urban Development and visiting urban development sites in Jiangsu province. A particular area of focus will be the protection of riverside towns and the balancing of tourist and other demands on these increasingly fragile eco-systems.

A report on the outcomes of the delegation will be published in the November issue of the newsletter.
