The beginnings of a NZ China Friendship Society national archive in Whanganui

Over the past 18 months or so, the Society has been quietly working towards the development of a national archive, currently based in Whanganui.

We’ve already received submissions from current and past members, comprising old Society records, personal papers, and books on China collected by Jack Ewen, Bin Fong, and Cecil Fowler. We are also storing Rewi Alley’s photographic collection, about 160 framed photos compiled by Shanghai People’s Friendship Society in 2010 and presented to the Society in 2013.

If you or a member of your family has any of the following, relating to or collected by members of the Society, we’d like to hear from you:

  • books, pamphlets, CDs, DVDs, videotapes, cassette tape recordings
  • manuscripts, diaries, personal letters, illustrations, photographs
  • minutes, official correspondence, newsletters, reports
