With covid travel restrictions lifted and the world travelling once again, the NZ China Friendship Society is planning two outbound delegations to China, both to depart before the end of 2023.

Beijing, Shanghai & Jiangsu, 11–22 October

The purpose of this delegation is to share information on current and planned climate change mitigation and urban planning activity in China and New Zealand, and establish contacts for future information-sharing and potential cooperation.

Programme in Beijing includes a half-day Environment and Urban Planning Forum organised in association with the Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, followed by a guided tour of an urban brownfields development site in Feengtai District. Other site visits will examine environmental and climate change mitigation activity at high-traffic visitor destination sites in and around Beijing.

Delegates will travel by bullet train from Beijing to Shanghai, and from there to Suzhou in Jiangsu province for a conference on Green and Innovation Driven Urban Development. This full-day conference in Suzhou, Xiangchen District will be followed by two days of site visits in Jiangsu province. Departure will be from Shanghai.

  • We’re looking for 2-3 young professionals in urban planning, environmental science,
data modelling, architecture, and urban design.
  • Delegates are required to cover the cost of international travel insurance and visas
    only.

Xiamen, Shanghai & Hangzhou/Hong Kong, 9-20 November

The purpose of this delegation is to share information on screen production activity and explore opportunities for screen production cooperation, internships, and exchanges between China and New Zealand.

The programme in Xiamen starts with delegates attending the 36th Golden Rooster Awards — the Chinese equivalent of the Oscars. The programme will allow plenty of time in Xiamen for delegates to discuss opportunities for cooperation and schedule follow-up meetings if necessary.

From Xiamen, delegates will travel by high-speed train to Shanghai. Discussion on internships and exchanges will be coordinated by the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Meetings with studios and production houses can be arranged according to the interests of the delegates. The current itinerary allows for a side visit to Hangzhou and departure via Shanghai, or onward travel to Hong Kong.

  • For the October delegation we’re looking for 2-3 young professionals in urban planning, environmental science, data modelling, architecture, and urban design.
  • For the November delegation we’re looking for 2-3 young professionals or practitioners working with young professionals in the screen production industry.
  • Delegates are required to cover the cost of international air fares, travel insurance, and visas. The Society may be able to make a financial contribution towards international travel costs.
