Prior to his arrival at Fuzhou for the China-Pacific People-to-People Friendship Forum in May, National President Chris Lipscombe visited Xiamen. This coastal city, approximately 250 kms south of Fuzhou, is Wellington’s oldest sister city in China. As former President of Wellington Xiamen Association, Chris has visited Xiamen many times. This was his first visit since 2013.

While in Xiamen, Chris visited the Little Egret Dance Centre, Xiamen University, Seashine Group, Xiamen Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park, and retail investment company Paragon International. Chris was kindly hosted by Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal People’s Government Mme Lin Na and Divisional Director of Asian Affairs Mme Guo Lin.

In June, a screen production and media delegation from Xiamen visited Wellington and contacts made during Chris’ visit were further strengthened. These visits have showcased the strong and beneficial interactions between friendship and sister city relationships linking New Zealand and China.

Chris’ article on his visit to Xiamen was published in China Daily and can be read here (English-language).
